Characteristics of TA therapy

You don’t have to “have problems”. You can be a well functioning, fulfilled person and enter into therapy simply to get even more of what you want from life.

Characteristics of Transactional Analysis Therapy #01In Transactional Analysis theory, Eric Berne said that people make "decisions" at an early age, out of awareness, and called this "Script". It a picture we paint of the world – how we as individuals see things. Some of our conflicts in life are as a result of this view. No-one is 100% “script free”.

Characteristics of Transactional Analysis Therapy #02• People are OK - client and therapist are on a level – not one-up or one-down.

• Open communication - therapist and client speak a common language. Client is encouraged to learn about TA. Therapist may suggest that client attends an introductory course or read a book on TA. Case notes are open for inspection.

Characteristics of Transactional Analysis Therapy #03• Contractual method - joint responsibility for change

• Based on a theoretical framework, building blocks are ego-state model and lifescript

Characteristics of Transactional Analysis Therapy #04• Decisional model- early decisions can be changed
